Oh Deer and his tireless love of Swan. Both Swan and Morrison have the chance to step up but I don't think it's very likely... also Ana just added a couple prospective forwards in the mix like King and Dixon so that would be adding more depth to the Ducks' system. I can't lie, I'm just a huge Bryce Swan fan. ;D In seriousness, I guess I just can't see how he could possibly be mentioned in the same breath as Brett Morrison, or be considered equally ready to take the next step. To me, Morrison's a much more complete player and in a totally different class. Swan is much more physically ready to take the step to the pro game. I think its a moot point anyway, both will be in the Q at 20.

Complete doesn't mean much and most complete 20 year olds head to university every year... unless your a high end star player you better find a role is you want to play pro. Swan is much more likely to find that role and be the better pro player. Don't let your hate cloud your judgment.

Oh absolutely, I wasn't seriously thinking either would be playing pro next year. I hope you're right in regards to Morrison, it would be a huge blow to the Rocket offence if he does turn pro. The AHL is not the only pro league he could play in next year as the ECHL is also an option since Anaheim does have an affiliate in that league (Augusta Lynx).

As I said I am really happy for Morrison as he certainly deserves it and I think he has the skill to play at the next level.
In regards to where he might play, one thing that I was thinking about is that as a 20 yr old if the Ducks really wanted him for their AHL team couldn't they have just waited a couple of months and signed him to an AHL contract. But by drafting Morrison they can assign him to the Q for one more season.
Personally I think it would benefit Morrison to play one more year in the Q where the offense will be centred around him instead of other players like Giroux/Trukhno or Laliberte. Although having said that if he impresses enough in the AHL training camp he will stick.
Its a tough call and unfortunately we won't know for sure until the AHL camps get going. I certainly wish Morrison the best as I am sure he would prefer to play at the AHL level but the Rocket's season takes a HUGE hit if he moves on.

I honestly think it benefits both the Anaheim organization and Brett himself to stay in the Q one more season. Anaheim has no need to rush him to the pro level and having Brett be the go to guy on a QMJHL team for an entire season will only help him develop. Playing 3rd or 4th line minutes in either the AHL or more likely the ECHL (if he goes pro) wouldn't benefit him in the least.
On Brett's side of the picture, if he goes back to the Q and lights it up like he's sure to do that's going to increase his value quite a bit. It's along the same lines as Laliberte. He was worth a pittance before last season started but his value skyrocketed by the end of the season. Brett would be worth more now then Lali was to begin last season but another season could mean a lot.
Whether that means anything or not remains to be seen.

I certainly wish Morrison the best as I am sure he would prefer to play at the AHL level but the Rocket's season takes a HUGE hit if he moves on. Good points on drafting vs signing him after the draft. But the other side of it is that Morrison may have already had an invite to an NHL camp set up for this coming season ... many FA 20 yr olds do. Anaheim may have figured the only way to trump that invite was to draft him ... and in that regard if they are willing to use a pick on him I'd say they want him now ... in the AHL of course. If a player gets drafted and then goes 2 yrs and is unsigned ... he goes back into the draft ... and if he gets redrafted then the team that drafts him has to sign him within a short time period or they lose his rights. I know Morrison doesn't qualify in that regard ... not previously drfated ... but does his age put him in that same type of situation ? He has been past over in at least two previous drafts.
