Maybe not a bad move for a 6th round pick as we needed to add some toughness.
The only thing is that the Rocket have a pretty good core with
Lessard-Southorn Gervais-Clow Swit-Malouin Owens
Plus recently drafted: Deighan, Snow, Gingras
I wonder if the plan is to use Main as a tough 4th line forward. instead.

I have a feeling that Deighan might take that spot from Owens....and I was wondering the same thing about Main becoming a forward

Obviously training camp will decide things.
But right now in theory given that we will have 3 17 yr olds my preference is Owens who is most likely the most ready.
And let Deighan and Snow both get lots of ice time in Jr A.

Maybe not a bad move for a 6th round pick as we needed to add some toughness. Unfortunately, Main is not very tough. Is this going to be another year of getting pushed around from the start of the season? Liked adding Laff at X-mas but can't keep him around this year. Need a toughguy. It was proven last year.

Main can skate with most guys and he plays safe. He is also mean. He can drop the gloves, but not against heavyeights. High energy player, plays hard every shift and want to win. Reliable on the 4th line, where he played the last 2 seasons or as d-man. Very coachable.
On the other hand, he tends to take some stupid penalties and he has a big ZERO offensive instinct. No hands, no shot, nothing. Absolutely no imagination with the puck.

How is this guy going to fit into the Rocket plans??? He has no sense with the puck, takes stupid penalties and goes after star players? Great guy to have around

Main sounds a bit like Paynter....who was very useful to this team last season. These "energy" type players, that play with grit and work hard are very useful to use on the 4th line. Im actually looking forward to seeing Main, as I don't recall him when Gatineau was here.

Like habs24 was saying, adding Lafferiere at Christmas added a new element to the team. Teammates played with a little more confidence knowing that he would be the one to battle with the other teams scrapper. Praught was an adequate band aid solution in the first half of the season. He had the size and strength to at least be able to hold on to those guys, but we saw a lot more out of our team physically after Lafferiere was added.
I don't know much about Main either, but his size suggests he is, like Score mentions, a Paynter style middle weight agitator.
So, we've been through the trading period and haven't acquired a tough guy. I guess it will be up to trying to make contact with a free agent from another league or find someone from the MJAHL to fill this roll. The obvious trick is finding someone tough enough who can at least skate to keep up on a regular 4th line in the league...that's easier said than done.
I'd like to start the season with a tough guy rather than make a deal for one at Christams
It will be interesting to see how Tanner Manson approaches training camp. He had low points and high PIMs in midget hockey, so he's likely an agressive player. Given the reputation his brothers have for physical play, he will have lot of attention following him. Obvioulsy, as a 16 year old he won't be our tough guy for this season, but this past year we saw a couple of 16 year olds who were willing to drop the gloves on a regular basis and fared decenlty most times (i.e. Kalin Paul, Danick Hudon-Paquette). In my mind, a best case scenario is having Manson play Jr. A this year and give him a crack as a tough guy in the Q at 17. It would be nice to develop a tough guy from a young age, rather than having an annual search for tough guy cast aways from other teams or looking to other leagues.
