As mentioned in the Euro draft thread by local Rockettalk poster Krang, Jason Swit to PEI for Joey Haddad.
From what I hear, it's a done deal!
Could be more involved ala pick(s).
Makes sense to hear about Joey heading to CB though........hometown is Sydney.
So, 20's would be: Jason Swit -Dman Geoff Walker-F Brett Morrison-F
Dman would be: Southorn-Lessard Swit-Clow Malouin-Gervais Owens
Boutin gone Grags gone

well we needed a blueliner, and swit can fill that role. haddad will be a 19year old player and has yet to show anything special. good trade for the rocket in my opinion.

It will be a draft day announcement I assume, and it's reliable info. The deal is done.

Now if we get a good Euro and one more scoring forward....we will be in the thick of things IMO

www.capebretonpost.com/index.cfm?sid=31455&sc=146So, with Haddad gone, that now leaves a spot open up front for a new Euro Fw. Latal-Morrison-Walker Euro-Doyle-Locke Cliche-Lachaine- Draft pick (11th overall)McKinley-Snowie (?)-Paynter Southorn-Lessard Swit-Clow Malouin-Gervais Owens Should we expect another move by this Rocket team come draft day?

To me this seems like a win-win move for both teams. For Cape Breton they get a local guy who can step right onto their third line and there is potential for him to be a 2nd line player after they move some top guys if Haddad plays well. Haddad could end up being a good deal for CB as if he plays like he did at the start of last season he could break out with over 20 goals, although his second half (especially the playoffs) were very disappointing and he made it clear he didn't want to play here next season.
Whereas the Rocket are able to move Haddad to get a low cost capable defensemen. Personally I was hoping for more of a solid Top 2/3 kind of guy but there really isn't much of a market or even throw in a 5th round pick and get Prokopetz who I am personally a fan of. Having said that I always thought Swit was a pretty reliable under used defenseman with CB. With us he should be an alright 4th/5th guy to pair up with one of the younger defensemen.
Personally I would like to see:
Lessard-Southorn Gervais-Clow Swit-Malouin Owens
And as mentioned before we could start the season rotating Clow, Malouin & Owens.
As for forward this puts pressure on the need for Locke to step up and for our Euro to work out.
As well I see a couple of options for that third line spot with Cliche and Lachaine. My preference (in order) would be:
1. Trade Boutin to a Quebec team for a 19 yr old depth forward 2. McKinley (he really impressed me last season) 3. 2007 1st or 2nd round pick.
I personally don't expect any other moves other than Boutin being traded. Instead this will give Savard 4 months to assess what this team can do and how all of our younger players are developing. Then at Christmas he could upgrade the defense/2nd line forwards if necessary.

I'd imagine you'll see them add a 19 year old enforcer before the season starts as well. Not overly important, but still a need.

I agree Krang.. team played better after we added Laferrierre last year.. low priority but better to get someone experienced to fill the role than the failed experiments of the past
adding Swit doesn't excite me much.... not at all what I was hoping for

Not that I am questioning that Swit is an upgrade over Boutin but something that I was thinking some more about over lunch is wondering if
Subtracting 19 yr old Boutin for 20 yr old Swit really is improving our team?
Putting the outside factors aside which is forcing Boutin to be moved, I think (in theory) if we weren't going to get a top 2/3 defenseman the Rocket really would have been better off keeping Boutin and adding a 20 yr old forward.

Did he not force their hand by asking for a trade? I heard he was not returning to PEI either way.

As I already said Putting the outside factors aside which is forcing Boutin to be moved Nothing worth mentioning but my understanding is that both Boutin and the Rocket have reasons why trading Boutin is in both their best interests. And so back to my question which was IN THEORY are the Rocket really improved with Boutin out and Swit in?

As someone mentioned above, I too would have liked to see them try to grab Prokopetz over Swit.....as I too like his style of game play. However, Swit brings a better offensive game then Boots did...and will this season. Who knows, he may be able to give us 40pts this upcoming season.
