Well we all heard this awhile ago but havent heard much about it since. I think its a great idea now we all get to watch our team while on the road and even while they are at home. Great for family and friends who are away.
TELUS to webcast all the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games exclusively on telus.com/qmjhl
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and TELUS today announced an innovative partnership to webcast all the QMJHL games on telus.com/qmjhl. This exclusive five-year agreement will allow junior hockey enthusiasts to watch all 630 games of the 2007-2008 season, including the playoffs, live on the Internet.
"TELUS and the QMJHL have been working together for the last four years. It seemed only natural for us to combine our resources for the benefit of our Quebec fans, and for our fans all over the world," said Gilles Courteau, Commissioner of the QMJHL. "Fans, friends and family will now be able to keep track of their favourite teams, whether they are playing at home or away."
This Friday, QMJHL fans can access telus.com/qmjhl to watch the Foreurs and the MAINEiacs fight it out in the quest for the President Cup. This unique experience will be free of charge and is made possible by the use of state-of-the-art webcasting technology.
"At TELUS, we are always looking for innovative ways to unleash the power of the Internet for the benefit of our customers and our communities," said Stéphane Dubreuil, TELUS senior vice-president, Quebec Consumer Market. "We are very "We are very proud to use our technology to promote awareness of Quebec amateur sport and to support the QMJHL."
According to Gilles Courteau, "this is just the beginning. We have more surprises coming this Fall. Until then, we wish the Foreurs and the MAINEiacs the best of luck and invite the public to join us for this season’s final series on telus.com/qmjhl."

So most rinks have multi camera setup, when the rocket are at home are they going to broadcast out with the little canera that they use for the coach? This should be fun to watch.

So, will this be free of charge next season to all or do they plan on having a fee for it?

"Moreover, I’d like to thank our major partner, TELUS, for their continued support. Their vision, commitment and projected investments over the next few years (more than 3 millions dollars) will enable our fans to watch every single game of the upcoming 2007-08 season through the Internet absolutely free of charge. Also, we’ll be able to offer our fans more in terms of video streaming, including highlights, interviews and stories revolving around our brightest starts. Their commitment to the QMJHL will undoubtedly help the League grow in the marketplace in terms of visibility and recognition."

"Moreover"
That's the Q site's favourite word.
If only they knew how little it's actually used in (casual) English language.

Great idea now I can take my lap top to the game to watch te replays if they don't bring back the big screens.
perhaps the 50/50 monies could help pay for the screens.
Nobody seems to know were they spend the money?

So with Telus doing the games are the Rocket adding anything for us to come watch the game or do we stay at home and watch it? I know we have a new sound system but what are the Rocket doing to bring fans back this year?

So with Telus doing the games are the Rocket adding anything for us to come watch the game or do we stay at home and watch it? I know we have a new sound system but what are the Rocket doing to bring fans back this year? IMO, and perhaps the only way to draw solid crowds here on PEI is to ice a competitive team. We here on PEI LOVE hockey. The CCC has been sold out plenty of times. Panthers hockey. Abbies hoceky. Sens hockey. and Rocket hockey. The "average" fan will come out and fill the CCC if the team is winning.......and very competitive. As a fan, I love going to a hockey game when there's a large, noisey crowd. That's the way it's meant to be. Perhaps get the Rocket more involved in the different communities around PEI.......or at least make it more known that they are involved....as we know that they are. Make this team THE Island team...as they proclaim. Some people mention that the 1st season big crowd was just a "honeymoon" phase and it could be over now......but I don't buy that for a minute. Islanders LOVE hockey, and WILL come out to support their team.......but the team needs to be competitive and the team needs to have a chance to go deep into the playoffs. Islanders are funny fans..............kinda remind me a bit like Hab fans to a point.....except they sell out every game. So as expressed in the above post, what can the Rocket do to fill the CCC and sell this team to the "average" fans. ;D

So as expressed in the above post, what can the Rocket do to fill the CCC and sell this team to the "average" fans. ;D Sorry, but I've been here 23 years (and 23 hockey seasons), and I've never bought this "Islanders are great hockey fans" stuff. It's an urban legend - something people repeat over and over again, but there's no substance to it. Islanders are "Average fans", at best, and even that's pushing it. The Abbies never could draw flies, even in their good years, when they went to the Royal Bank cup. The Panthers used to draw about 300 fans to their games in the mid-nineties, when they had average, though not great teams by any means - the only time the fans would show up was during the playoffs, especially the '92 and '96 series against Acadia, both overtime classics. I know, because I had Panther season passes for years....those Acadia games were the only sellouts the Panthers ever had in the nineties. The Senators were lousy the first year, but won their division in 94-95 and 95-96, drawing poor crowds every year they were here - averaged 2200 in 94-95 and 95-96......then they left, for obvious reasons......the Senators hardly ever had sellouts, and never in the regular season after their first-ever game in '93. The ONLY time on PEI I've ever seen local fans CONSISTENTLY support their team was the first year of the PEI Rocket, when it was actually hard to get a ticket, there were several consecutive sellouts during the regular season, and a crowd of 3100 was considered "average". The last two years, the crowds at The Morgue have often been embarrassing. Sure, Islanders support their team.....provided they can get in free....I've had a lot of people tell me "Oh, I'll go if someone gives me a ticket, otherwise, no" - these people don't understand that a team needs paying fans in order to make a go of it. So no, I don't buy this "Great Island fans" stuff - not after what I've seen locally for more than two decades of watching hockey. You want "great" Major Junior fans? OK, try Hull, Ottawa, Rimouski, London, Peterborough, and Regina, for starters. Sorry to burst the bubble, but it's the truth.

I agree. To get the interest back that they had in the first season is to have a competitive team or ice a team that can make a run for the championship. The last couple of years the Rocket seemed to be a team that has been spinning it's wheels with no momentum. I know people who used to follow the team but they lost interest because the perception is there that Rocket are not a contending/competitive team. Their feeling is what's the point of attending the games if the team is going nowhere. Going into the 05-06 season the goal for this team was to make the playoffs and going into the 06-07 season the goal was to win a round or two in the playoffs. Well if I was a casual fan who likes hockey but wasn't an avid follower, that does not sound very interesting and does not make me want to go out and attend every game. I might go to a game every now and then to see how they are doing, but the last couple of season some games were brutal to watch and enjoy. It's those kinds of games where the Rocket lose some of their fans and lose the interest of the casual fan.

One difference between those teams and the Rocket is that those teams are championship teams. Hull (Gatineau) won a couple of league championships recently. Ottawa has been to the Memorial Cup lately. Rimouski has been a league champion recently. London has won a couple of Memorial Cups. Peterborough is a team that has won it and has a storied past and Regina has been contenders as well. If anything using those teams as examples shows what a winning team does for building a strong fan base.

However, I still feel this "Great Island Hockey Fans" thing is a myth - it's just never been borne out by the facts.

All Canadian towns are loaded with great hockey fans ... and it seems that all communities seem to think that they have cornered the market on great hockey fans. But the bottom line for any team is they have to build momentum ... build exciting teams with some exciting players ... entertain the fans on a nightly basis. Some teams seem to have the attitude that since its major Jr ... they will come ... and they don't have to do anything but open the doors. Some years thats true ... but other years teams have to work harder to attract good crowds. If you aren't a strong team ... then being a tough team can keep the rink fairly full. All Maritime communities are good hockey towns ... but if the team isn't working hard to keep the fans entertained then the fans will find other things to do. Most of us that post on these boards are diehard fans and all we need is the hockey ... don't need all the frills ... prizes, intermission games, music, etc ... but others do. Those others are the ones that teams have to attract ... us diehards will be there anyways.
