When the Habs selected goaltender Carey Price 5th overall a lot of Hab fans were left shaking their heads........myself included.
We had(at the time) a stud in nets with Theodore, and what we needed was a top FW......not a young tender.
How things have changed.
Now, Price is considered IMO, one of the best if not the best goaltending prospect in the world right now.
Backstopped team Canada to a gold medal, while earning tournament MVP and chosen the top goaltender.
Price carried his WHL team while earning the CHL goaltender of the year award.
Price soon joined the Habs affiliate team in Hamilton for their playoff run and so far is posting such numbers as: 12-5 2 SO 2.01 GAA .935 SV% while playing 1075min of ice time.......most of all the goalies.
Last night in game #1 of the League finals, Price made 46 saves (20 in the 3rd) while backstopping the Bulldogs to a 4-0 win over Chicago..his second shutout of this AHL postseason.
Just how good is this 19 yr old goaltender?

Just how good is this 19 yr old goaltender? Very good. I remember watching the draft, almost positive that the Habs were going to take Gilbert Brule. It got to their pick and he was still available. Whoever was annoucing their pick said something along the lines of this, "The Montreal Canadiens are proud to select from the Western Hockey League, (I gave a fist pump at this point because Brule had been basically confirmed in my mind) from the Tri-City Americans (here I went huh?) goaltender Carey Price." My jaw basically dropped. I could not believe it. Now it appears that it was one of the most shrewd picks the Habs have ever made. After Crosby, Price is staking claim to the next best player in the draft.

Hamilton can win the Calder Cup tonight.........
The Bulldogs, who finished third in the AHL's North Division with a 43-28-3-6 record, have been led in goal by rookie sensation Carey Price.
The Canadiens' top prospect, who led Canada to a gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship in January, stopped 33 of 35 shots on Wednesday for his team record 14th win in a single postseason.
Price, who played most of this season in the Western Hockey League with the Tri-City Americans, is a shoo-in for the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as playoff MVP should the Bulldogs win. In 21 postseason games played, he is 14-6 with a 2.11 goals-against average.
"It's been a lot of fun," Price said. "The guys have really accepted me as one of their own. It was like stepping on a club team. I've known a lot of these guys for quite a while.
"It's been a great experience so far."
Great enough to earn a job with the Canadiens next October?
General manager Bob Gainey has already said that the team won't keep Price unless he's No. 1. "We won't be bringing him to Montreal to sit on the bench," he told the Montreal Gazette.

Price, who won the Jack Butterfield Trophy as playoff MVP of the Calder Cup playoffs, made 29 saves. His stops included a pad save on Klepis, who fired a hard shot at the Bulldogs' rookie in the opening minutes of the third period with the score tied 1-1. He also stopped a hard point shot from Mike Green in the closing minutes with Hershey looking to tie the game.
"I was just so relieved (when the game ended)," the 19-year-old said. "They're a good team, they could have come back at any second.
"It's a nice way to top it off."
Lapierre had no shortage of praise for the young Bulldogs goaltender.
"He's just unbelievable," Lapierre said. "He's a young kid with great skills and he's not nervous. He made us look good all playoffs long. I think he's going to be a great goalie."
