Why would they want them? What did they accomplish in Columbus?

Good for MacLean!
Tired of hearing news about him and the Columbus Blue Jackets in the local media - as if it mattered.
Great success story, MacLean in Columbus!
They'll be knocking down his door to offer him a new job, that's for sure.

what do you mean?
of course it was a success story
but his team has not even come close to a playoff berth in it's entire history and his free agent signings and trades have been rather wuestionable
but why would any Islander be happy for MacLean's firing and say they are sick of seeing coverage of him in the media? that's absurd
p.s. count me among those who would love to see Doug get involved somehow with the Rocket.. you can bet one thing if he was running the team the "fans" would not have many off ice complaints as he would definitely be looking out for Island interests first

What I meant is there was a period when Island newspapers seemed more interested in covering the happenings with the Columbus Blue Jackets than in covering what was happening with local PEI teams, including the Rocket.
Happens often here - a story is only a story if it has an "Island connection" - witness what happened with VT this week, and Afghanistan last week - most of what you read had to do with an "Island connection", however tenuous it may be.
As for MacLean, I doubt that we'd see him get involved with the Rocket.
Once someone's been to the NHL, they rarely show any commitment to Major Junior, even if they come back - remember Vigneault in that second PEI Rocket year? He sleepwalked through the entire season, anticipating he'd get the call from the Bigs again, and of course, he did.
The PEI Rocket's main problem, I've always felt, is The Morgue, both as a building and the way it's run.....if you can call it that.

The CCC may need some improving but IMO the Rocket's main problem is the way it is run, not only on and off the ice but on the corporate side as well. The other day I had a conversation with someone who had dealings with the Rocket on the corporate level and they were not too impressed with Savard and the Rocket at all. I think Pill hit the head on the nail with saying that Maclean (or even someone like Maclean) would be good for the Rocket because being a local, he would be looking out for Island interests. Because from talking with my friend and others who have had dealings with the Rocket, they come across as a group that seem to only be in it for themselves. Some people on here might not agree with that, but there is a reason why they can't get corporate sponsors for the screens, internet broadcasts, radio broadcasts, etc.

I think there's an absence of "likeability factor" with the Rocket at upper levels. Management isn't perceived as overly friendly, and there's a glaring lack of an Island presence - I don't mean just an Island spokesman, I mean someone in management with a strong Island hockey connection.......you know, the Doug MacLean, Turkey Gallant, Vince Mulligan, Jamie Kennedy, MacMillan/Carragher/Revell type. THAT'S what they need!

so after disagreeing with me you read someone else say the same thing and now you agree with me?
the morgue is not the problem.. never has been... wingman is bang on
maybe Columbus and the Rocket could make a trade.... we'll take Doug as Marketing Director and they can let Attila charm the people of Ohio

the morgue is not the problem.. never has been... wingman is bang on Don't understand how you can say that - The Morgue not being a problem. Here we are, stuck with what is probably the worst Junior rink in Canada, and it's "not a problem"? Horrible sightlines, obstructed views, congestion galore, dirty glass, broken seats, lousy audio system, defective scoreboard, small dressing rooms, dysfunctional box office, tiny canteens, hardly enuf room to move around the rink.......etc etc etc.... Not a problem. Sure. As for the MacLean-Attila trade, sounds fine to me. Should do much for Columbus' attendance woes.

How do small dressing rooms affect the fans perspective? I used to and continue to play their and the dressing rooms are large compared to other Ch'town rinks.

Um.....I wasn't aware that we were comparing The Morgue to "other Charlottetown rinks". I thought we were comparing it to other Major Junior rinks. The visitor's dressing room and surrounding area is too small, which is why you can't go all the way around the rink. This increases congestion markedly at the Zamboni end. That's what I meant. The whole place is terribly cramped.

Before MacLean was fired someone told me that they heard a "rumor" that he wanted to buy the Rocket and move them to S'Side (I would say he would need more money then what he made in Ohio). He might be a good guy to have in the organization, but I don't believe that they'll be moving to Summerside, new rink or not.
I do like the trade talk on sending Attila to Ohio....the Rocket would definetly be the winner on that deal.

That is just some one bizarre idea because Doug is from Summerside
