According to TSN.ca (via AP) the New Jersey Devils have fired head coach Claude Julien. Seems kind of strange for a team that's leading it's division with a 47-24-8 record with a couple games left before the playoffs to fire it's coach, especially since the team won last night. There must be more to this story.

Devils did that a few years back too.. ended up winning the Cup
Maybe they think history can repeat itself

But at that time they had Larry Robinson to step in as head coach, not just Lamoriello coming in from the box. Seems like a dumb move to me, obviously unless there was some issues with key players in the dressing room.

That could be good for us though...Maybe that opens the door for Julien to come here and be our head coach....
One never knows....

It isn't much of a surprise to have seen this happen as someone mentioned before it's not the first time that Lou Lameriello fired a coach this late in the season. During the games when they would show the Devil's bench it was usually John Maclean, their assistant coach, that was going over plays and interacting with the players. Homer Simpson (aka Claude Julien) would just be standing in the background not involved with what was going on with the bench. The surprising part is that Lou is going behind the behind again. In the last couple of weeks Pat Burns and Larry Robinson were seen with Lou at the games which was fueling speculation that a change might have been coming.
