Only similar thing I've seen was that AHL slash to the head a couple of years ago - Russian player, I think it was....happened right in front of the net, think it was Hamilton playing. I believe you are thinking of Alex Perezhogin's slash to Garrett Stafford's head in the 2003-04 AHL playoffs. Stafford was knocked unconscious with convulsions, needed twenty stitches, suffered a loss of teeth and a concussion. He was released the next day from Hamilton General Hospital and has since made a full recovery. Perezhogin was suspended for the rest of the playoffs, and also for the entire following AHL season of 2004-05. Perezhogin was also charged by Hamilton police, and was given a one year probation and ordered to donate $5,000 to charity, and to cover Stafford's medical bills. Perezhogin now plays with the Montreal Canadiens while Stafford plays with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL.

Yup, that's the one, Perezhogin.
Vicious slash to the head/face.
Don't see how anyone can say that it wasn't similar to Simon's slash.
Perezhogin is still playing, of course, but he shouldn't be.
