John LeClair, who scored 50 or more goals in three consecutive NHL seasons, was demoted by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday.
The move was made after no other NHL team claimed the 37-year-old left-winger off waivers. LeClair had two goals and five assists in 21 games with the Penguins this season.
The six-foot-three veteran has played 967 NHL games over 17 seasons. He has 406 goals and 413 assists.
Playing for the Philadelphia Flyers, LeClair scored 51 goals in 1995-96, 50 in 1996-97 and 51 in 1997-98. He appeared in five NHL all-star games, and he was on the 1998 and 2002 U.S. Olympic teams.
