Lecavalier and Theodore out for worlds...........
3/30/2005
Vincent Lecavalier will have his knee scoped by Montreal Canadiens' team orthopedist Dr. Eric Lenczner on Monday or Tuesday and will not be available for Team Canada at the world championship which begins April 30th, agent Kent Hughes told TSN.
Also, with a groin injury and his grandmother's funeral, Jose Theodore has confirmed that he won't be with Canada in Austria.
Although Team Canada GM Steve Tambellini has extended invitations to goalies Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo, Theodore says even if selected, he wouldn't play.
Lecavalier has been bothered by a nagging knee problem dating back to last year's Stanley Cup playoffs and didn't get it fixed last summer in order to play at the World Cup last September. And with the lockout in effect, Lecavalier opted to play for Ak Bars Kazan in Russia where he played through the injury.
Lecavalier's Tampa Bay Lightning teammate Brad Richards is doubtful as he is still recovering from abdominal surgery in the fall. NHL MVP Martin St. Louis's participation is also an issue as his wife is experiencing a difficult pregancy with a due date that is during the tournament.
Veteran centre Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche has also declined an invitation while Boston Bruins Joe Thornton commited to the tournament on Monday.

Theodore on the idea of bigger nets:
""Excuse my French, but this is bullshit,"
"This is junk, and I hope it's not serious. The idea of a bigger net is crap. I was drafted as a goalie who has spent his life, since I was 7, learning to play the angles. And now, all of a sudden, they're thinking of doing this? "I know when a shot misses my blocker side that it's going to be wide. I can let a really hard shot go a nd know it's going to miss the net by half an inch. Now, it might go in. That's not right."
waaaaa...waaaaaa......whiny little bitch

There was more bad news for Team Canada on Thursday.
Buffalo Sabres centre Daniel Briere, who was a lock to make his third straight trip to the world championship, is hobbled by a hip injury and may not be going to Austria for the tournament which begins April 30th.
He's getting an MRI done in the next few days and has his fingers crossed that it's going to be good news, but his heart tells him he can't play.
''I don't think I'll be going,'' Briere said Thursday from Buffalo, a day after returning home from Switzerland. ''I got a call from Steve (Tambellini), but I've had a lot of troubles with my hip. I've injured it three or four times this season in Switzerland and it really hurt the most during the playoffs.
''It hurt the most when I played a lot of games in a short time span and that's what scares me about the world championship because it's going to be the same thing.''
He's left the door slightly open if he gets good news next week from the MRI results and Team Canada still has room for him, but it doesn't sound good.
''Team Canada has to move forward, I understand that,'' Briere said. ''Playing for Team Canada is a special thing. But if I show up there and put the team in a tough spot because I can't play ... I just can't do that.''
Briere was magical on a line with Dany Heatley at the 2003 and 2004 world championships, leading Canada to gold.
''We had great chemistry together, he's such a great player,'' Briere said.
