I think that most agree that the Rocket will be looking to aquire a new Euro this summer during the Euro draft.... Cmorej came into camp and started the season turing some heads. Kid looked real sharp, and some commented that this season we would have our best 1-2 Euro combo since the team came here....... However, Cmorej slowed up and his play dipped big time........and during the 2nd half of the season he was a healthy scratch plenty of times. Now, I'm not sure when the Rocket take their pick.....does anyone know the order? What do the Rocket go looking for? Im guessing a FW obviously. Im thinking that they should go looking for a 18/19yr old Euro Fw. The Euro draft is always a crapshoot..........trying to find a kid who you can "lure" over to play for the team. Hoping the "chosen" player turns out to be a solid hockey player. Hoping the kid "likes" the culture and becomes happy here... Here's a link to the NHL Central Scouting list of some possible European kids for this summers NHL draft......and some potential picks for the CHL Import Draft. cdn.nhl.com/futures/cssrankings/euro_skater0107.pdf

I think the defense is in decent shape heading into next season, but I would guess a forward also as two of the Rocket top goal scorers have graduated. It would be nice if they can find a winger to play with Morrison. One with speed but with more finish around the net and more of a scoring touch than Latal. Even though Latal may very well develop into that type of winger next season, it would be nice to have 2 speedy wingers like that.

It depends on whether they're after a 20 year old dman or not. If they are then they'll try a forward. If not they'll draft an NHL drafted dman, like BitterPill has been saying.

We've never had a really good 1-2 Euro combination
I am hoping next year that finally changes
I would prefer a Euro dman (nhl drafted as mentioned before) and then use some assets to add a sniper up front to round out the overagers... however if we do get a 20 y/o dman (in the mold of a Guilbault) then sure roll the dice yet again on another Euro forward
Personally I think it's time to let kids like Locke and Haddad see if they can be scorers rather than keep them forever buried on the bottom six.. throw in Doyle and I think we actually are pretty decent shape up front for next season which is why my preference is a Euro dman

Quality Euro defencemen are hard to find though.
What I see happening is that we use our Euro pick to find another NHL drafted offensive forward and add a 20 year old defencemen like we did last season.
Taking a quick look at team rosters, the only Euro defenecemen are Bartulis, Tulupov, Suchy, Korenko, Vishnevskiy, Stich, Prokop.
That's only 7 of 36 European spots and I would guess that number of European defencemen in the Q might be close to the highest it's ever been.
Plus, looking at that list, in my opinion, only Vishnevskiy came into the league as a player right away. The rest were projects who needed at least a season to develop (i.e. Bartulis, Suchy), have finished a satisfactory-good rookie season and should be much stronger next year (Tulupov, Stich, Prokop) or just didn't pan out (Korenko).
I think we'll have more luck finding a quality defenceman in the form of a 20 rather than a Euro.
On that note, is there a thread buried deep on the board that lists the potential 20s for next year? I'm sure I saw it somewhere.

I know most teams use the Euro pick on forwards but I said if we could find an NHL drafted Euro dman (preferably 19) whose team maybe would like him to come over and play a year in North America.. I think that would be most beneficial to us for next season (crucial year to make a legit run).. I'm thinking someone along the lines of a Tim Ramholt for Cape Breton 3 years ago
There are lots more impact 20 forwards available on that list than dmen IMO.. off the top of my head three names that jumped off that list who I would not mind on the Rocket next year are Caciotti, Pare and Verrault-Paul

A quote from an article that was printed in a SJ news paper, regarding some options that the Sea Dogs have.
''And with the wealth of quality defencemen stockpiled, the Sea Dogs could also consider trading Stich , leaving two spots open for, let's say a couple of flashy European forwards?"
"People say we need fowards, and I know we need to score goals to win games but D are a commodity and not too many people have them," said Beaulieu.
The coach was alluding to the fact that of the top three players available, defenceman Simon Despres of Montreal could be the best of the bunch. The other two are forwards Louis LeBlanc of West Isle, Que., and Steven Anthony of Dartmouth.
Right now, I'm leaning toward taking the best player in the draft and we feel the best player is the defenceman," said Beaulieu.
Would the Rocket be interested in Stich at all?
Would SJ be at all interested in parting with Stich? If so, at what cost?
Stich had a solid rookie campain, and is highly ranked for the upcoming NHL draft.......would Beaulieu part with him if he feels he would/could land a couple Euro Fws?

Swit for Haddad. Book it. You mean Jason Swit? Makes sense to hear about Joey heading to CB though........hometown is Sydney. So, 20's would be: Jason Swit -Dman Geoff Walker-F Brett Morrison-F Dman would be: Southorn-Lessard Swit-Clow Malouin-Gervais Owens Boutin gone Grags gone and if thats the case, look for a Euro Fw to land here.
