I`m not sure if this has been posted somewhere already, but this is a cause worth supporting. There is a MASSIVE movement afoot to send Rory Fitzpatrick to the NHL all-star game, with some people estimating up to 100 000 votes for him already cast! The voting process is a farce anyway, so let`s use that to reward the hard working lunchpail type player! www.voteforrory.com

The better question is why not.
The voting system in the NHL is a farce and generally speaking means that stars from marquee teams, and teams that do well attendance wise, will get voted in regardless of whether or not they deserve it. It seems that often the same big names get in year after year even after their best years pass them by.
So if the starting lineup is meaningless (and I think it is for those reasons mentioned above) why not have some fun with the process and do something different. Pick a "fringe" player so to speak who works hard just to be in the NHL and explimifies character, something just as important as skill.
Vote Rory and make history!

this will pretty much assure a change in voting for next year. the fans will likely have no impact at all. I am betting he wants nothing more then for this to go away.

Rory Fitzpatrick is not an all-star. Nicklas Lidstrom is an all-star!

some people care enough to vote 2300 times Yeah, but Rory would vote you though..... Don't understand it what so ever........isn't the All Star game about great players? This is nothing but a joke, and every NHL player knows it.

This is fun.
That's reason enough to like it.
Same "great players" every year, getting in even if they're actually shitting the bed all season, is boring.
yup

This is fun. That's reason enough to like it. Same "great players" every year, getting in even if they're actually shitting the bed all season, is boring. yup As I read elsewhere about this topic, I came across a few statements that I agree on....and just wanted to post them here. "Vote for Rory is an embarrassment. No one goes to an NHL game to see Rory Fitzpatrick." "Rory Fitzpatrick may be an all-star father, husband, brother and friend, but as a hockey player...he is not." "I would hate to see Rory make it to Dallas. If you think the All-Star game is a joke now, what will it become when a no point pylon plays against the best in the NHL?" "Where does it stop, so next year we have to watch Barnaby and Hal Gill playing at the All Star game?" "Fitzpatrick may take a spot away from someone who really deserves to go and may never get a chance to go again " "If we wanted to see below average players play against each other just watch the Flyers and Blues duke it some night" "When I hear about Rory Fitzpatrick and the All-Star game, i think of the Master Card commercials with the Zamboni Driver." Grapes says Fitzpatrick campaign is 'a joke'Cherry called a highly visible Internet campaign to vote fringe player Vancouver Canucks Rory Fitzpatrick into the game a "joke" on his weekly Coaches Corner segment on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast. Fitzpatrick has yet to record a point in 19 games this season, returning to the lineup Dec. 14 after missing over a month with a broken bone in his left ankle. However, he sits second in all-star voting for Western Conference defencemen behind Anaheim's Scott Niedermayer. "The league is not a joke. This is a joke," Cherry said of the fan campaign. "This is supposed to be funny." "The big thing Rory, if you're watching, they're not laughing with you, they're laughing at you," said Cherry. www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/Hockey/2006/12/24/2968543-sun.htmlCoaches Corner Episodewww.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/coachs-corner.html

Agreeing with Don Cherry, not exactly strengthening your argument. That's like logging onto Moosetalk and agreeing with Fred The Moose.
Ron MacLean, arguably more respected and definitely a smarter guy, was a huge fan of the Rory campaign in the same Coach's Corner segment.
Rory will play and he won't even look that out of place. Hardly any of the guys are trying anyway............ in a game of pond hockey like that, everyone looks the same. I remember an extremely talented CB Eagles team holding a scrimmage at the end of the team's skills competition once............ same type of no-hitting and no-defence pond hockey as we see at the NHL all-star game............... and it was Neil Smith, our most Rory-like player that year more than likely, who was filling the net left and right.
People who actually take the all-star game seriously, I have to question how much they really know about what is and isn't a good hockey game. Sure it was good back in the days when the defending Cup champs played the all-stars from the rest of the league, and it was even good back in the 80s when Campbell vs Wales was actually a really good hockey game.......... but since sometime in the 1990s, the all-star game has become a total joke.
Since it's a joke already, why not add Rory to the mix and at least make it a funny joke?
Guarantee that the people out there who won't watch if Rory isn't playing (I'm one) far, far outnumbers the people out there who won't watch if Rory is playing.
Since when did anyone care about the all-star game anyway? I don't think anyone even noticed that they didn't hold one last year. Now those same people who didn't even notice that are crying about how such a "sacred tradition" as the all-star game may be tarnished by the presence of Rory.
Sad.

I don't see Rory Fitzpatrick's name on the NHL All-Star game roster. Did he not finish in the top voting or did the powers that be of the NHL put a stop to this. I didn't vote, just curious if he was in fact in the top voting?

I didn't vote, just curious if he was in fact in the top voting? The voting is only for the starters of the All-Star game. The top-2 vote getting defenceman for each conference make it. He was out voted by Lidstrom and Niedermayer. And rightfully so. The Vote for Rory campaign was a load of bull.

What's a bigger load of bull is Niedermayer getting voted in by the fans and then choosing not to play........... although he doesn't plan on missing any regular season games. Things like that are what make the all-star game a joke............. so we decided to have a little fun with it and try to vote Rory in. Wouldn't be any less of a disgrace than countless other things that happen in the ASG every year. And it's become pretty much accepted that the NHL tampered with the voting results............ the East somehow managed to finish with about 50,000 more total votes than the West............ even though the NHL supposedly only accepted ballots that were completed in full for both conferences. Hmmmmm, those 50 000 votes that disappeared............ I wonder who they were for? I think I made the right choice years ago when I stopped caring about the NHL.
